Dr. Maria Alice The, PhD, RD, is Learninghoo’s Nutrition and Gluten-Free expert. Born and raised in Brazil, Dr. The received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Nutrition Science from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Before completing her Ph.D, she spent 14 years working as the Clinical Dietitian and Food Service Director at the Children’s Hospital in Florianopolis, Brazil. Dr. The completed her Ph.D in Nutrition Engineering in 2000 from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil and Waterloo, Canada. In 2000, she moved her husband and two children to the United States and began working as the Dietitian Supervisor for the WIC Program within all of Kern County, California. In 2010, Dr. The wrote a Gluten Free Cooking Book in Portuguese, which was sold and sold out in Brazil. After nearly 15 years of working for the WIC program, Dr. The moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 2015 and became the Health and Nutrition Manager for the Charleston County School District.
